Which Patients Need Sedation
November 23, 2020
There are cases when sleep therapy is the best way of dental intervention. Of course, each case is determined by your doctor, dentist after examination and test results. You can always make an appointment for a pre-examination to determine the procedure for your individual treatment.
Indications for sleep treatment
Here are some cases where dental treatment under anesthesia is appropriate and recommended by dentists:
🔹Dentistophobia, when the only way to save your long-untreated teeth is dentistry under sedation.
🔹Constant too much discomfort when interfering with the oral cavity.
🔹 Hypersensitivity to the gag reflex when sedation is the only way to avoid it.
🔹Your child does not want to get used to the dentist and constantly cries and gets hysterical at the reception. In this case, sedation will allow the child to relax, treat all problem teeth and will not lead to serious stomatophobia in the future.
🔹Volume dental intervention, due to which the patient can not keep his mouth wide open for a long time, the lower jaw begins to tremble, joints ache.
🔹The tendency to overload the temporomandibular joint, due to which the patient can not withstand the procedure for a long time with his mouth wide open. Sedation will solve this problem completely.
The most common medical indications for treatment under sedation:
🔹 Severe stomatophobia;
🔹 Allergy to all types of anesthetics in dentistry;
🔹Psychiatric disorders in which the patient can not sit still in the chair;
🔹Some congenital diseases;
🔹 Very voluminous dental procedures.
Note that there are different types of sedation in dentistry: superficial and deeper. For more information on dream treatments, see here.
