Basic rules for taking care of your teeth
February 27, 2021
Proper and regular dental care is essential for a beautiful smile, fresh breath, and a healthy mouth. We must remind you of the simple rules of dental care and daily rituals that will help you keep a radiant smile for a long time.
1. Remember your daily oral hygiene routines
- Brush your teeth twice a day. Brush thoroughly for at least 2-3 minutes.
- Clean your mouth after each meal. You may use a mouth rinse with fluoride or sugar-free gum.
- Use floss or toothpicks to clean between your teeth. Do this to reduce bacteria and remove food debris between your teeth.

2. Choose the right toothbrush
The best solution is to consult with your dentist when choosing a toothbrush. The dentist can find the best option for your clinical situation.
- Prefer brushes with soft bristles unless another brush is recommended. Yes, there are bristle brushes with different stiffness. Follow the advice of your dentist when choosing the brush. If you don’t have a specific brush indication, prefer a soft bristle brush. A soft bristle brush will do a good job on the soft plaque, and the hard ones will damage your gums. If the plaque is hardened or tartar has already formed on your teeth, only professional oral hygiene by a dental hygienist can help.
- Note that the brush’s crossed and split-level silicone inserts are just marketing, and they clean even worse.
3. Take care of your toothbrush
Your toothbrush is the tool you use daily and directly plays a key role in caring for your oral health. So, your toothbrush certainly needs gentle care.
- Keep your toothbrush completely clean.
- Rinse your toothbrush thoroughly after brushing your teeth.
- Store the toothbrush in a cup with the bristles facing upward or in a special case.
- Change your toothbrush at least once every three months and after you have had an infectious disease.
3. Choose toothpaste responsibly
Unless you have a specific indication from your dentist, choose an ordinary hygienic toothpaste, but pay attention to its composition.
Unwanted ingredients in toothpaste:
⛔️Triclosan. This ingredient disinfects the oral cavity so much that good bacteria also die. It also makes the body resistant to antibiotics.
⛔️Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). This ingredient eases the removal of plaque, but with regular cleaning, it can have a carcinogenic effect.
⛔️Parabens. They are used as preservatives. First of all, they are a strong allergen. Secondly, according to the findings of scientists, they accumulate in the body if used constantly. The substance is also carcinogenic.
When choosing toothpaste, consider how you feel. If you feel discomfort, it is better to change it for another.
4. Have a balanced diet
A balanced diet is the foundation of a healthy body, and teeth are no exception. Keep the following rules in mind, which also apply to dental care.
- Maintain a balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
- Consume carbohydrates reasonably. Eating too many carbohydrates can lead to tooth decay.
- Eat raw fruits and vegetables. Solid food removes plaque and strengthens gums.
- Don’t forget calcium. It is found in nuts, dairy products, and green vegetables.
- Control the temperature of your food. Dramatic temperature changes are detrimental to tooth enamel and can cause fractures.
Eat well to maintain a healthy smile for a long time.
5. Visit your dentist regularly
This point is obligatory because only a doctor will be able to:
- Provide professional, personalized advice on dental care.
- Perform professional cleaning.
- Detect and prevent cavities in time.
Take care of your health!
