Periodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal tissues diseases. Periodontium — tissues that retain and support the tooth: alveolar bone, clear, periodontal ligament.

Periodontal disease is often the result not only of poor dental care but also a frequent manifestation of serious systemic diseases, such as cerebral diabetes. That is why our periodontists often use a comprehensive approach to treatment and can refer you for tests or consultation with an endocrinologist.

During your first visit to the periodontist, you will receive a comprehensive assessment of your oral cavity, not only of your mouth, but also of your teeth. The doctor will tell you where you may have an incomplete caries or an old crown that needs to be replaced a long time ago. If you find a related problem, you will be obliged to make an appointment with a specialist who will be able to help you with this problem. Also, during the first visit, the doctor conducts basic periodontal screening (PSR-test), which enables you to determine whether you have periodontitis. The test is absolutely painless.

If the result of the test shows that you have only surface periodontitis (gingivitis), you will be recommended to have a scaling (removal of the underlying dental deposits) and recommendations will be made for brushing your teeth at home.

If the problem is more serious, the doctor will make a periodontal chart (marking the loss of periodontal attachment (bone) on individual teeth) and refer you for a computer tomography or orthopantomogram.

During the second visit, on the basis of the complete examination, the doctor will offer you treatment options and provide professional hygiene treatment if needed — since periodontitis treatment starts with eliminating the infection. Treatment options include periodontal surgery, which includes regenerative periodontal surgery, closure of jasper recessions, and augmentation of bone and soft tissues.
